Learning Garden.

The Learning Garden is a project that started in…Thanks to our generous donors and enormous community support, The Sierra Schools Foundation funded the creation of a school garden program at both Loyalton Elementary School and Downieville School.

Community Theater.

At the end of every year, the students of Downieville School perform a musical that brings together the entire community in a celebration of its unique and nurturing educational environment

Filmmaking Program.

The Sierra Schools Foundation funded a collaborative ceramics program at Loyalton High School. This highly successful program has added so much to the educational experience at Loyalton High School

South Yuba River Citizens League Water Quality

Global Issues & Project Math NYC Trip

DHS students explored the architecture and culture of New York City, reflecting on their 3-D model project and exploration of pencil tower skyscrapers dominating the city’s skyline for Project Math, as well as issues related to immigration and the benefits of diverse communities on society as a whole. in Global Issues

Downieville Virtual Telethon (Part I & II)

As a part of a K-12 initiative to utilize the various technology grants awarded to Downieville School over the past 10 years—including Maire McDermind’s Video News broadcasting grant & Patrick Wilson’s Recording Studio & Green Screen Room grant—all students and classes created original content for a fundraising event during the

Downieville Jr./Sr. High’s SYRCL and Tahoe National Forest Water Quality Project phase 2 was a success! Students took water samples at the Oregon Creek Day Use area to measure water turbidity, temperature, and pH levels before setting up a titration lab, using various chemicals to see if there were healthy levels of dissolved oxygen in the Yuba River for plant and animals species.


COVID-19 pandemic to fund art in the schools while many theater events and performances were canceled. All but 2 students from Downieville School are featured in this dynamic and technologically complex, live streaming performance.
